[quote="Zing":7xs66w8o]I have a system for dealing with pthiefs. It doesn't work well, but I don't see a better way. Unfortunately it punishes me, not the pthief.

I check live info and if any known pthieves are logged on, I don't.

If any log-on while I play, I leave.

This is my choice and I'm not suggesting others do the same.

It is my way of saying, to the powers that be, that pthieving has made the mud a pain in the poolp.

It pisses me off that I can no longer recommend this great mud to new players. It is not a welcoming atmostphere. This is true in spite of the efforts of almost all the players to be helpful, friendly and forgiving of us noobs. How can I vote for or say this is friendly supportive mud when most comments and gossip are about a few players that want to spoil your fun?

FYI. I've not had continuing problems with pthieves since I follow the annoying requirements of returning to an inn or such place every time I need to read, or to regen, or mem, or any any time I get a pop. Read this! This is annoying and slows down the play.

Pthieving steals enjoyment. If I want aggravation, I don't need to come her e get it.

Zing[/quote:7xs66w8o]

Sorry but you are a retard, as is any other whiner who cries like a bitch about pthieves. Perhaps SlothMUD.org should open up a online store that offers tissues, tampons and No More Tears Johnson and Johnson shampoo? With a business opportunity like this one we'll be able to go 3D in a coule of weeks. Jake, Splork, hit me up, I have some really great eCommerce scripts to offer.

I'd love to have seen you play back in those times when pthieving was as easy as Bit's mom and didn't require the (arguable) skill it does today. With recent skills/gamechanges like avatar druid shapeshift, toss, nightmares, inability to enter vault while boarded, unless you're on Valkyre you'll be surprised to find your ass served to you on a pretty platter with a side dish of your choice even if you're not boarded.

Yeah, I kinda like it. Things are starting to get difficult for you. Think of it as our way of making the game more enjoyable for you. Kinda like the way you make the game more enjoyable for us.

In the end though, I'm sure it won't bother you at all. It's allowed, so obviously the gods want it to be part of the game, right?

I'm pretty sure every ~DS~ has killed your pthief once.
Also ~DS~ isn't a Russian base clan. Most are from the USA, and some
are located in Asia.

PS: Come bring your pthief, I'm sure we will pkill you again, and again,
and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again etc....

Pthiefs cant take your things unless you have items in your inv. So keep them out of your inv etc. Adjust to the threat. If you die on a mob without sanc do you keep trying to kill it without sanc? Keep your things out of reach and they dont get stolen.

A pthief can be annoying for sure. Very very scary. However instead while keeping things out of your inv, wait for them to steal then enjoy hunting them down and killing them.

What truly ruins the mud is players who treat all like noobes and think they are a gift to the game. Getting put down, laughed at, and made an example of for asking what they consider simple questions is much more likely to have a new player not play sloth. Some noobes are annoying and ask many many endless questions. But most of the newbies that get shot down dont really need the reaction that they get to their question.
What is old for some, is new and different for those trying to learn.

Seriously keep your eq out of your inv. Keep sense life up, and maybe even toss a magic rope room up if your out in the open and absolutely have to change eq.

Before I enter my vaults I check who, look around, and even cast an area spell to make sure no one is in the room with me before I unlock the vault. Paranoid....possibly, do I still have all my junk....yes.

PS. that pic is much tamer then what guinex really looks like, at his current
state of decay, they wouldn't allow it on the site for humanitarian reasons.

Guinex is still my favorite concubine. Nobody has the "sharpen weapon" skill in the 90%'s like he does...IF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE

This is a very good point - I have repeatedly seen on mud review sites complaints like this about various muds. Please please please be nice to the newbies, regardless of their level!

Mosaix has the best plan, hands down. I subscribe to it myself. Pthieves are still annoying. I'll use an example that Blackguard can easily confirm.

Spellbooks cost a lot to rent, so I tend to hold them when I have something that might be hard to find again. I used to have a JJD that I would remove to do this. I was tired one night, but noticed the mud had been up for a while, so I figured I'd run the shops quick and stock up on some newbie eq and spellbooks and then rent again. I made it all the way to the Auction House when one of Derro's alts reminded me that I could be pushed and that I had a JJD in inventory. He rented the thief immediately, so there was pretty much nothing I was going to do about it.

At first, I wasn't overly worried about it. Annoyed slightly that I wasn't going to rent, but not really bothered. I offered to buy it back. He told me it wasn't a problem, just give him 4 mils. Considering that I was (still am) about 2cps from forging another JJD for free, I wasn't going for it. I told him a max of 2. Then he did a very stupid thing and rented.

First reason this was stupid: It annoyed me. I was still logged on and was in slightly worse shape than when I got there. I was annoyed that I didn't have the coins, and cycling a couple mils just to give it to a greedy thief didn't sit well with me. And best, he wasn't logged on, so there wasn't much I was going to be able to do to get it back anytime soon.

Second reason this was stupid: It took me about 2 hours to realise that I don't need the thing. I simply replaced it and have moved on rather handily. So, he basically screwed himself out of the offer I did give him. I now also have a perm Valker, which is something I have always wanted, but never gotten around to actually making.

I've seen many others get annoyed for basically similar circumstances. They're good about watching for thieves, but let their guard down for something like a raise, or change eq in a scribe's shop they thought was safe and get jacked. It's annoying, and even more so when you know it's avoidable.

Spreading annoyance is bad karma. I'm fortunate that I didn't lose anything that mattered, but the annoyance it caused isn't something that I'd wish on others. And it have a very logical and definable source. Derro. Poolp. Harlot.

They spread annoyance and chase people from the game for petty reasons. Nothing they do matters unless it's negative. Poolp I will give a margin of credit, because even though I find him annoying, he's got a margin of honor and honesty that I appreciate. He's still annoying.

So, please, take Mosaix' advice. I think the game would be better without them, but there's currently not much that can be done about them except to try to cause them as much annoyance as they cause themselves. Karma and all. It quite likely won't bother them, but it can be fun to try. :)

Nia ERRR....Derro (so i worship Nia, or did until just now, so throw me that retard bone and tell the short bus to come pick me up)

that right derro this isn't our grandma's sloth or your old sloth anymore, lots of changes, and i'm thinking the best are still on the way. typing faster then you can think also seems to be a (arguable) skill of derro today.

i'm of the mind that you cannot teach noobs to keep items out of thier inv.
it is just not possible, until a few things get jacked to teach them this.
i'll help with a cr or a question whenever, but i can't help someone get back stolen eq (this does burn me to some extent) we all can see how talking to derro about getting an item back or even the nightly news could make someone stop playing all together. and when you lose one new player you will also lose the 2 or 3 friends they playwith here as they move somewhere else. the largest most popular games right now don't have this player thieving going on. a few of us here think sloth would beifit from the same. then all these old players/imms who now steal here could go over to another mud that allows pthieving and start doing some good for sloth by driving the players they steal from back here.

What's all this incoherent gibberish about player thieves making people leave the MUD? I remember speaking to Jake about two years ago, and the wisest words ever spoken about MUD population were something similar to this "If you pthief from a player and it makes him leave the game, it's the fault of the game that drove him to the point. Nothing alone makes the player want to leave the game, it's the general gameplay issues that are to be blamed." A good example of this is Brad. I remember this one time when he firestormed Mason along with me, died, and I pushed him south. He wrote the longest piece of literature I've ever read about how he hates the world and how he'll never return but guess what? He was back within two days farming poy cps.

[quote:2zp4eil0]and when you lose one new player you will also lose the 2 or 3 friends they playwith here as they move somewhere else.[/quote:2zp4eil0]

Show me a true VALKYRE newbie that I have stolen from and I'll give you 5M straight up. If anything, I'm the only communist pthief who steals from the capitalist bourgeois avatar pigs and gives [b:2zp4eil0]YES GIVES[/b:2zp4eil0] it to the poor, hard-working proletariat that are the sub-20 newbies!

[quote:2zp4eil0]the largest most popular games right now don't have this player thieving going on. [/quote:2zp4eil0]

Where are you getting your info? World of Warcraft has restricted PK, Shadowbane had player thieving, both can be considered "most popular games."

And hahahaha @ your post, Bit. So the [b:2zp4eil0]bit[/b:2zp4eil0]ter truth finally comes out. You still have your bra on a little too tight because I didn't sell you your jing-jit disk back. Once again I'll explain it to you. The market value of the JJD is 5M. I gave you a million coin discount. It's not my fault that you didn't have/want to pay/want to borrow the money, I hope I taught you a good lesson. Needless to say I sold the JJD for 4M. So why was it stupid of me, exactly? I got mine, you got yours.

Bitter? Nah. I just don't like you, can't say I ever really did. And if I really wanted the disk back, it's not to tough to forge when you got 2 extra pearls lying around. But think whatever you like, I don't mind.

Would you like a tissue with that? Obviously you felt strongly about your JJD if you shed salty tears of anguish all over my screen for 3 paragraphs.

Check out this haiku that I wrote, yo.

Your disk is stolen
And so are your megahurts
Tears roll down your face
