hehe. Actually it IS good that you are giving them the opportunity to get it back ..not that it's of any use to you being personal eq. Then again, it would be worth substantially more on auction were it not personal. Whatever, I still think something that cannot ever be replaced should also be nosteal, but that's just me.

[quote="Weasel":1xnrpg8k]Any idea WHY our playerbase is dwindling? It is quite possible that pthievery is a significant cause, so that is probably why so many people are focussing on it. Duh...[/quote:1xnrpg8k]

We've had 15 years of pthieving. If this was the primary driver in playerbase size we'd have negative amount of players on.

maybe.. or we might have a bigger playerbase now. Whatever, it's theoretical and I think I said way back somewhere that what will be will be and there's jack we can do about it.

pthieving was even MORE rampant back in the days we had queues to log into sloth, and it wasn't even just 1 or 2 items stolen. sometimes a robe full of elite eq were stolen, etc.

and i don't see how having pthieving on the mud is worse than muds that allow pkilling and plooting.

the admin here has already made it pretty hard for us to lose our stuff...i remember days where u only got 20 pieces of eq back if u lost them in a crash, and that's through no fault of the player at all...

my 2 cents

nod, that was then, this is now :) but yeah ok if pthieving has to stay, perhaps make certain items nosteal if they are irreplaceable.. like prime eq autoquest eq.. And yes, they are personalized which means nobody else can use that item, but unfortunately that doesn't stop pthieves from taking them.

I agree to some extent that if you leave stuff in your inventory then you are asking for it to be stolen, but if you are changing into raise eq to raise someone and eq gets stolen in the process, or likewise a big group needs to stop midway through a run for regen and returning to a safe room is impractical.. well perhaps pthiefs could be a bit more reasonable in those situations? Probably too much to ask, but hey, if we don't ask, the answer is always no.. it is situations such as these that really bug players imho - when normal gameplay is effected detrimentally, not so much when a player is just being careless..

I getting kind of sick of talking about it to be honest.. it's all just rhetoric it seems.. so perhaps I'll give up commenting about it
- that should make some of you happy. :)

I always considered pthieving as an element to sharpen my playing skill, and become more aware..Use it as motivation to become more SAVVY, and grow a spine already...jeez, Get smart, dont whine like little girls with skinned knees! I dont like gettin eq stolen either, but I decided that for every action, there's GONNA be a reaction! But if you think that thieves dont ever steal, then you probably need to get jacked a few times...now quit bitching and go to bed...

Have a not- too- heavy non-personal bag/pack/robe of goodies and sleep in a non-safe room. I'll take care of the rest

pthieving

Postby Avatar » Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:30 am

Well, it's been a while since I logged on and I'll say upfront that it's not pthieves that have prevented me from playing.

For my own comments: We have had pthieves for 15 years, but Sloth has changed over that time. Back then (sloth1 era) most in-game eq wasn't so rare. Areas repopped faster, which means more repops over time, so dedicated players could pop eq more quickly. Pop rates were higher, though I doubt that any imms would comment on that. There were no single-chance autoquests, and no dracha items that might take a year or two to save up the drachma.

I've had eq stolen several times, and each time it's been a very negative experience. Even in the situations where I've either been able to ransom the items back or recover my own eq through pkilling the thief, the experience is enough to make me question my commitment.

For the specific situation that created this thread: The person selling the ring of harmony may not be a pthief but I certainly don't agree with him. I feel sorry for the players who defended him. Selling stolen eq for a profit is (to me) a terrible shame, especially if you know who the item belonged to. You are profitting from the misfortune of another person. It's comparable to watching your neighbor's house destroyed by a tornado, then finding his family's photo album in your back yard. Sure, you might consider yourself lucky and offer to sell it back to your neighbor for 5k or 10k or whatever you consider it to be worth to that person. I'll refrain from personal insults, but let me be the first person to say that in my opinion your behavior is disgusting.

This is a response to avatars post........

I am one of those people who defended the accused in this particular thread. Please don't feel sorry for me, I saw an unfortunate situation between two people I have never had a problem w/ and had to look at all the facts and particulars in the situation. I made my call, stated to the public that gondor is not a pthief, and the next time I was on helped gnu's alt get back looted eq...so *shrug*......that is my stand on this, to try to do best by all players and not make others feel bad/stupid.

and to all of the comments based on the subject of dwindling player base...... my experience w/ this mud (Resouh<---------------pretty new player) hasn't left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside on the social aspect of this mud......I can easily seeing this mud becoming one of those derelict muds w/ 15 players that have been playing for 10 years *shrug*

Sorry to those who this doesn't apply to, sorry for the imms who put so much time into this mud, and sorry to see this being the central focus of our community.

Also in response to Avatar's post:

While I appreciate your concern for me.....I believe that we do not see this situation in the same light. True, I do feel bad for Pendalf's loss and am trying to find some sort of solution to recompense. However, I believe that this is more like watching someone's house be destroyed by a tornado...finding their photo album in your backyard.....being accused by your neighbor of stealing the album and watching while all of your neigbor's and those you thought were friends turn into a lynch mob because you were offended by that accusation. Honestly, I can't say that I would have done the same....but I will not turn against my friends (including Pendalf) for something as petty as this.

The ring is off of the chopping block. This entire topic is a matter of ethics and personal choices. Pthieving is part of Sloth history and obviously the immortals are not inclined to remove it anytime soon. Pushing this topic farther will only serve as an annoyance to them and create boundaries between friends. Let this lie!!--or as Auto would say STFU!!!

Points of interest by the artist formerly known as Avatar

1- I've had eq stolen several times, and each time it's been a very negative experience. (well, duhhhh!}

2- Selling stolen eq for a profit is (to me) a terrible shame, especially if you know who the item belonged to. (You'd rather we junk them?)

3- You are profitting from the misfortune of another person. (Ding Ding Ding Ding---I think a little lightbulb slowly lit as Avatar answered his own reasoning)

4- I'll refrain from personal insults, but let me be the first person to say that in my opinion your behavior is disgusting. (Now that's just rude,I take offense)

Let me just state that I never stole from a person I didn't like but in your case I'm willing to make an exception
