High levelers farming newbie areas

I was being nosy and observing the kobold incident.

A level 23/14 thief was stabbing kobolds for fun or potions or for whatever reason he wanted to stab kobolds.

Someone started making a big deal over it, because their wife wanted to kill kobolds, and felt that level 23 is too high to be killing kobolds.

Well, who's to say that 23/14 is too high to kill kobolds? It's awfully self righteous. The poor sap that was killing the kobolds never even figured out the name of the noob who he was supposedly stealing kills from. This is because the individual making the stink refused to speak to them. I observed this person trying to figure out what the big deal was and try to make amends for whatever he had done wrong. Instead, the people involved preferred to whine on gossip, ignoring his tells, and making a considerable mountain out of what was a small molehill.

This same vile exploiter who was stealing kobolds from poor decent noobs is frequently on the gossip channel giving away free eq to people lower level than himself.

Get a clue people. If kobolds is busy, go kill goblins. And if you have a problem with someone, deal with them politely, instead of talking a bunch of crap on gossip and paging the admin. How hard is it to tell player x, do you mind killing something else? I'm kinda small and kobolds are a good mob for me.

Quot: Looking at your stats Magi, you are not struggling to gather gold to level.

Grin... my stats are quite misleading :) During the first week I spent about 4 million coins on potions and scrolls, trying to level solo faster than godmode could sponge. Potion quaffing is a great way to get xp, but when you spend every coin you get on them, it makes your stats look rather misleading. I once levelled Ditheca at 500 million xp an hour (solo), but got zero gold doing so.

To tell the truth, I'm not suprised the ice troll or chubby eskimo were nerfed, in fact I mentioned it the first time we killed them around level 25. I was a quite surprised that dolphins were knocked down from 3500 to 2914 gold... unless that was a blanket depreciation for all level 40+ mobs, looking at a mob that only one person fights seems like a heavy burden of micromanaging. (hint: if you raise their poprate, i'll stop cycling them! 70 corpsed and still no boots!)

I should also say that getting to know Splork through his alts has been quite fun. I have a large respect for him now that I could never have learned when he was just the 'evil nerfing overlord' of Sloth III :)

My posts on this thread aren't arguments, just observations.

The gold changes were a blanket percentage taken from level 40 and above mobs. I was actually thinking I would get them before anyone noticed but apparently a couple of you guys are hitting those mobs. Chubby and others were not targeted at all. We have some mobs that are coins mobs and always will be, I do like having a tradition here.

I have changed it up slightly on the next reboot. Sometimes the mobs will give more coins than normal and others they will give less, as they do now.

Im not going to yank anyone's chain here, the overall affect is the same as it is now, less gold on high level mobs. This was needed. However, adding a little bit of randomness, excitement, and suspense to looting a mob is enjoyable, I think.

Thanks for the kind words, I do enjoy playing. I want to play more. Its just incredibly hard with a kid and knowing we still have some changes I have to get finished.

Enjoy,
Splork

Though lonewolf's actions were poor (swearing, picking on ppl, making fun of them) before splork called him on his behavior, yes a day later he attempted to apologise. Unfortunately I was unable to log on that day. Thing is, he was not the problem and the situation was not exactly what our dear Juggleblood has led everyone to believe.

The initial situation was not, as it has been said, level double 20plus (20x20x10 usually) laying waste to newbie areas though this was bad form. The problem was them killing morted mobs that took 2plus minutes to beat down to mortally wounded. That was what frustrated me and opened discussion. Then Splork spoke, everyone started into it, and the can of worms was opened.

I love how Jon lies. It makes everyone almost believe him, which is so unbecoming of an immort. Thing is, the situation was about bullying, botting, and greed. Splork recognized it and the insinuations flew. By the way, the time of the incident(s), only one person apologised, though the stealing of kills happened more than that one time apologised for because when high lev chars go through and one hit everything, they tend to not notice the newbie that's been working on the mob the past few. They tend to not notice the impact a few of these lost kills take on a newbie who nearly dies trying to hit the pathetic mob they so quickly defeat.

When I enter an area, I always type where to make sure I'm not encroaching. These folks made fun of the hapless newbie they stole the kill from for not being fast enough. Since when is protecting newbies reserved for couples who are married? What if that newbie was someone reviewing the mud? Someone new? Does it matter to you?

Or are we all going to just make up what we want to because someone got tired of you being so two-faced and kicked you off her facebook friends list? You are supposed to be representing the mud, so next time let's be honest. And though Lonewolf was a pr!ck, the truth be told it was the frustrating situation that upset me and the fact there was nothing to be done about it. Poor Lonewolf did apologise after being called on it. Is that the same as really being sorry? I guess.

It's not a big deal, is it? You lie to make someone look bad. . . not knowing the whole situation? I think it's worse than the kill theft.

Thank you for apologising for real, Defi. I appreciated that you notice newbies now. It's sad that ppl took this to the nth degree. Sorry for anyone who felt trod on by getting called on the crap. I did quit playing my newbie and will get on to help Storms once in a while while he's gone. He's bad about studying his spellbooks! He'll probably have one of the kids play Medik for a while - he hopes to make a raiser. That was my goal. I wanted to help folks. Too bad my exp gaining was so slow.

When you all talk about grouping, let's think for a minute that maybe groups are hard for some ppl. So Newbie areas are essential. You can't get enough gold to level just killing cats, dogs, and rats. I'm too little for goblins. . . But I know. . .I know I'm too slow. Good luck to you all.

And for gosh sakes, Jon Stop LYING.

Oh and again, it was XEROX not poor, misunderstood Lonewolf. Get it right, Jon. Oh wait, you'd have to have actually been there observing not making up from heresay.

Lonewolf did take it very personally when I got upset about losing yet another morted kill, this time to Xerox (who was a butt about it) and Stormshadow told Splork that the situation needed looked into. LONEWOLF started fighting about it and justifying his own behavior when Splork started talking about the situation on gossip. He was feeling guilty.

After I logged off, who knows what in all happened, but this was about high levs killing mortally wounded mobs and mobs I was in the middle of fighting because they were farming kobolds so fast they weren't looking, or they were and did not care who they screwed over in the process.

Yeah lonewolf handing down eq is generous. I'm sorry he couldn't apologize to me yesterday after his ranting but I was really not up for it. Sorry again for causing the uproar. It was not my intention. I was just frustrated and Stormshadow is overprotective.

If Splork sees the problem, then it's a problem. If he sees no problem, then it's not a problem. He is the head honcho here. I want to let all immorts know that I really appreciate what you've done. Sloth has been part of my life since the end of 1. It's come a long way since then. WOW. Good luck to you all.

And again, let's not lie. A nosy immort should know all the facts before posting they know what's going on.

The situation has been resolved and I really dont see it being an issue anymore.

Its very important that we all try to get along, especially with all the changes and the restart. This includes me, yesterday was the first day in a very long time that the old splork returned and I got frustrated.

Enjoy,
Splork

BTW, I briefly installed and had a play with phpBB 3.0, and it's really awesome, particularly the admin controls. Apparently with a little work Sloth's current PNphpBB2 board can be imported by changing a few DB table names and a few tweaks.. just thought I'd suggest it being worth a look for use in a revamped future website. Also maybe CM software might be worth a look, even Wordpress might work well for the website. MovableType is really good.. a little bloated, but lots of features. Not sure how to handle the eq list in a practical way though.. MovableType has customefields, that might work.. just thinking out loud here while procrastinating.. I have an exam on Monday. bah.

I hope nobody gets mad about "farming" the fortune hunter on vk. He never loads and I don't see how anyone will finish the aq with such a long list of people waiting for Acme to get done camping. After 30 kills I would say he is quite tired of it. I thought vk was a place to learn, not to cycle one mob for weeks.

I don't know if it is just me but it seems like hardcore players get nerfed and players who only know one area get sheltered and helped. It is understandable that we need new players but I don't understand why the hardcore players seem to be getting hit in the ass at every turn. From eq to coin nerfs it just seems like there is a thumb on our heads.

well, i musta noticed the situation very late, because i'm not trying to lie for anyone. I don't really have any reason to. I don't doubt the gist of the story you just posted. So I'm sorry I made judgement on incomplete facts.

I do find it kinda hard to believe that Lonewolf was intentionally trying to be a prick. But I can't say i know for certain.

The gossips I was reading seemed pretty ridiculous to me on their face: people fighting over kobolds.

I don't want you to be paranoid and think I have something against you. You cut bridges a while ago with anyone who grouped with John cuz you were fighting with him. It's not as tho you or I have slighted each other or have any reason not to get along.

My impression was that people were being silly, but I guess you had a genuine grievance. Sorry. Peace.

Well since his autoquest says that he has the shovel it would only seem like he still had it. If the item was moved maybe look at what the fortune hunter says when you talk to him. It is pretty clear that he has the shovel by his words. Shrug.

Anyone talking up wealth and glory hasn't used it.

What are the key-names for shovel because I only know one and the song takes 2...
