I've heard from some people who claim to have seen these photographs many years ago... so I'm wondering whether its a case of the photo's having nothing to do with the story? Possible I guess.

I think this is the main website to break the 'news' however the sources appear to be free lancers in Rio... maybe they created story and batched it with some old photographs... I think the picture is quite possibly real... just totally unrelated.

Hmm, I see it's a light fixed-wing aircraft rather than a helicopter now.

The fact that everywhere these are mentioned there seems to be a paragraph or two actually about them, followed by a screed attempting to convince readers of the need to preserve tribes in general, doesn't fill me with confidence.

If I were being cynical, I'd be tempted to say that "discovering" a previously unknown tribe would be a very good way to make the world at large, and the media, listen to what the preservation organizations have to say.

To quote from the link Weasel posted (thanks btw), the director of "Survival International" commented "These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist". Somehow that seems like an odd reaction, considering the fact that uncontacted tribes actually exist isn't held in doubt ([url:3g87903q]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncontacted_peoples[/url:3g87903q]).

Frankly I'd like to see some comment on the situation from someone with more knowledge and less political agenda.

I find it odd that such 'tribes' never saw an airplane before or heard the noise from machinery clearing the forest. Not necessary its a fake, but I'd be more believing that it was an aggressive tribe who chose to shun the outside world.
