Clan Arena

Postby Yinao » Mon Apr 16, 2007 3:17 am

 Here is an idea that has been tossed around, the settlestone arena has the ability to hold up to 4 teams. Me and a few others thought that it could be cool to have a clan arena where up to any amount of clans can pick up to 10 of their best clannies and have an arena pvp team tourney....

I've got something like this on the drawing board, but haven't built it on the builders port yet.

Its a chaos arena with 2 bases, light and dark, separated by a short playing field. I've got a drawing on paper, but no scanner.

Each base will have one very thick mob in the center and you win by killing the mob in the enemy's base. Each base has three entrances with large guardian mobs that block the opposing team (can't flee or hunt pass). Guardian mobs don't respawn.

The base mob and guardian mobs are alignment aggro. So before the match the light team must all get aligned good and the dark team aligned evil. It'd be easy enuff to make a referee type mob that sets player alignments automatically at start of match.

Also each base contains a store where they can purchase healing potions, dispel grenades, and troops. Purchasing troops causes alignment aggro wandering mobs to appear in the center of the board. So lets say I'm on the good team and I purchase "treant wave". A bunch of wandering treants appear in the center of the board that will only be aggro to the evil players.

Death: dead players remain where they lie. You're free to cast web on them, push them into your own base, whatever. But Corpses are sacrosanct and may only be looted or pick up by their owner. This is enforced by proc, you simply won't be able to break this rule. Also after a short amount of time, corpses will teleport to the center of the board. (so your corpse won't be trapped in the enemy base)

Money: players must deposit all gold before they enter the arena. There will be an entry way with a referee and bank teller available to do this. After they enter the arena, the agreed upon amount of gold will be distributed to each player. Very small amounts of gold will be very significant in this arena.

Timed events: if the match starts dragging on, certain random events can occur designed to speed up an outcome. For example: arena wide dispel, large aggro mob spawn, weakening of guardians, etc..

I based this loosely on Hero Wars or Dota from WC3 and had clan contests in mind.

The Settlestone Arena is the worst place to fight ever. Couldn't we have an actual area like Rub said? I know for a fact that Jahnesta is 99% written and already flagged for chaos and it has mobs. It could easily be the base town on the light side. I would be more than happy to alter it for this purpose, and/or help write/contribute in any way I can.

The reason I suggested SS arena is because it is currently the largest arena ingame atm. I was unaware of the chaos/arenas that are in the process of being built. I just thought that it would be cool for a few hours to see what you could do against other chars for fun, not to prove your the best etc. Altho, it seems we got more to look out for, I like your idea Rub sounds like it could be a good hit.

Sounds cool Yinao. It's just a hard thing to do spontaneously. Planning an actual tournament takes a lot of work. I think Wasp organized the last one. Maybe they'd let you organize one if you were willing. Volunteer and see what happens.

The reason I'd like to get permission to build another arena is that I think it'd be cool to have something with a preset format that doesn't require too much interference or effort on the part of the imms. Players decide teams. The teams enter the arena, match begins, one team wins, the end.

I'm thinking 2 teams of 3-8 players each with a clearly defined objective within a time frame of 20-40 minutes. Chaos arena just doesn't appeal to me very much.

It would be fun if exp and random bonuses (god sancs, increased stats for a certain amount of time) for winners in the new arena.

sure the bonuses could then be abused, but seriously the time required to earn them is prob not worth it for those seeking to abuse it

*bump*

I actually built this thing and it works. Has the features discussed previously, plus some more. Some folks have had a sneak preview.

I'm taking more suggestions and discussion before I beg someone to transfer it to the live port.

The basic idea is that it would be a permanent feature of the game, but that initially it is opened as an actual tourney.

I think the current owner of the Mantour gaunts is Chi (2 years now?). Anyway my suggestion is that the gaunts go to the winning team, rather than the winning individual. The gaunts could be set as personal for a number of individuals. For example gauntlets mantour tourny *Banedon* *Yasix* *Shazuko* *Gargon* *Messiaen*....

I'm thinking 5 person teams.

When you get done stroking each others ego, look me up. I know a few 'shady' char's that wouldn't mind being involved

And Shepherds we shall be For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Spite is a dark emotion that nonetheless seems to help set humanity apart from its closest primate relatives, new research suggests.

The sinister emotion that angrily dwells on how unfair the world is could shed light on the unusual human notion of fair play, and scientists say the research could help understand how and why these dark and light sides of human nature evolved.

One concept some researchers think is unique to humans is the idea of fairness—that everyone should share the same advantages and disadvantages.

The presence of spite in humanity could shed light on why people can cooperate so well with each other. "Spite is a bit nasty, but it reflects how much you care what actually happens to the other guy," Jensen told LiveScience. "The fact that humans are sensitive to fairness has a dark side, but also a good side."

"Spite, envy and jealousy are definitely not the best human qualities, but we have them and can't get rid of them, so it's interesting to study them to put humans in a wider context
