Oath of Victory

Postby Guinex » Sun Nov 05, 2006 5:07 am

Just out of curiosity does this skill make the mob target the last person to swear and oath, and also it seems like it gives them at least a +4 to hitroll? Just from my observation is this meant to be a death trap, or is it not functioning properly.

I just ask imms to show me - how it could be useful? Both oaths, sandstorm, endure pain, quilin (supplicant) etc.
Maybe I don't pay much attention to new spells/skills but some of them seems very ... STRANGE...

*bump*

Can anyone answer Guinex's question? I'm curious to know how these oaths work also.

Also anyone know how defy/endure pain works? I am thinking that it is a temporary damage reduction affect (maybe 90 percent reduction for 2 rounds or so for the endure version)

While I'm asking, what does a cacaodemon supplicant do exactly?
Talk to the clown.

I don't have the code in front of me, and I have essentially no long term memory, so even though I coded the oaths this may be totally inaccurate. But:
- oath of victory does not give mobs bonuses to hit you
- if your honor isn't great, oath of victory in fact does almost nothing (except maybe repair your honor)
- but it gives you some pretty decent bonuses if you have good honor and renown

Also, you have to know it to get the other oaths. Well, the other oath, but eventually we will also have 'oath of vengeance' which will turn you into a hellacious killing machine when a mob kills one of your friends. I just have to come up with a quest for it. (It took me so long to finish the excruciating blow quest that at that point none of us even remembered what the skill did any more.)

And the qilin is supposed to be a good mount. It may have gotten nerfed at some point, or maybe not. Doesn't the monograph cover it?

I found oath of victory useful in some chop-style areas due to saving some eaudaemon's mana :)

Cacodaemon is the best single-corpse fighting supplicant... and it is nice for low level clurics, or if you are too greedy to sacrifice or found more corpses :) (last was often for me)

How are the attacks directed when this oath is sung? In a situation where i was 2.tank, Im 99% sure those attacks are not directed at the person the mob is directly fighting(tank), well almost all but 1 are not hitting the tank.

Pretty sure that once you oath, you are no longer protected - so you basicall end up being the top of a/the prot chain

If I recall correctly when the oath was implemented, it was mentioned that the gods did not value the oaths of someone who wasn't in danger to start with.

I know that I was running Demonweb and I noticed that the tank was using the victory oath... suddenly reminded that I had the skill, I also used it. It _quickly_ became apparent that I was taking at least as many hits as the tank.

I'm not sure what the exact mechanism is, but if you give the oath, it's like being out on point with the tank... or worse. I should probably use the oath more with Bit, since I was getting about 250 temp hps per oath, but I stopped using it for some reason. Not entirely sure what it was.

fairly new to this oath of victory, still trying to work it out.

currently I'm: You are thought of as fairly honorable.
I get somewhere between +180hp temp as soon as I swear victory in a battle.
I used to get +200 or +250hp, I've not lost any battle where I've sworn victory or fled from any such battle or lost honour in any way (that I would recognise unless the below scenarios explain it), is this the way its supposed to work?

1.

If I start fight, swear victory, then get a pet (xag) to assist I lose the bonus, and the comment is score about unfulfilled oaths disappears, and I get no echo telling me oath is fulfilled at the end.

?Does this mean I've failed the oath or invalidated it in some way?
?Have I lost honour for this?
Theres no echo telling me its happened I can see

2.

If I start fight, get a pet to assist, then swear victory I get the bonus, and the victory is echoed at end of fight.

?Is the order of actions important?

3.

If I start fight, swear the oath, then the mob flees at the point it flees the oath seems to be removed from score and I can never fulfil it.

?Is this again an oath unfulfilled or invalidated?
?Have I lost honour for this?

4.

If I swear victory and the mob is too small I get an echo saying mob is unworthy of such a big oath

?Do I lose honour for this?

I'm not complaining or questioning how Oath of Victory should work, only trying to understand how it does work. Can anyone offer some advice?

You will see when you lose tour honor.
As I know, it can be lowered only if you died on a sweared mob.
also, you can't flee or recall if sweared...

There are three outcomes for an oath of victory: success, failure, or it-doesn't-count. Mostly actions that would cause failure are blocked by the oath, so the main way you can fail is to die.

Honor has two parts, (1) what fraction of oaths have you kept and (2) how many oaths have you sworn. The oaths have much better effects as (1) is closer to 100%, and also they have better effects as (2) gets bigger (I think).
