How to have a bad day...

Postby 12345 » Sun Dec 18, 2005 7:10 pm

I post this for humor only. This actually turned out a lot better than it could have :)

Last night I was playing around in the hellwell. Fun place. A little after 3:30 AM I was getting kidda tired, and was chatting with Nab, who was grouped with me for safety. The mind starts getting a little loopy that time of night, and I had forgotten to cast fly on my faithful eudaemon. This was the beginning of my downfall...

It fell down the well and I followed it down to cast fly on it, then stopped to rest since I was low on mana. Those familiar with the area might remember that the eternal flame hangs out in the room north of this one. Can you see where this is going yet?

While regenning, I was chatting, and I took a gander inside my overly full robe. I'd had to drop link the past couple nights because you can't rent with 130 items. I scrolled back to view the contents... I forget exactly what I was looking for... and it doesn't really matter any more. While I was doing this, I made the mistype of all time. I went north.

Well, a couple ticks later I scrolled back down. I was mortified. I had been impressively dead for a couple ticks. I immediately dropped link and flooded Nab with ICQ messages pleading with him to come save my stupid butt.

Nab was afk using the bathroom.

I corpsed and logged back in. Checking who, I could immediately see that there weren't enough folks on to help me kill the flame, and the flame likes to loot.... a lot.

So I immedately asked for help on gossip. That, as expected, didn't go so well. I'd like to thank the kind folks that tried to help me. Sloth is a generous place. Unfortuntately, the rescue attempt was doomed from the start, because no sooner had they started to get something together, Sloth announced:

Reboot in 10 minutes.

Luckily, Nab and I had managed to get back into the hellwell and grab my corpse before anything too valuable was stolen. I lost a bunch of stuff, but only a couple pieces would prove to be critically necessary and difficult to immediately replace.

When the reboot happened, I lost the 10 or 12 pieces of gear the flame was wearing. On the plus side, it saved us the trouble and difficulty of trying to get it back, and the flame seemed to have a fetish for my reading gear.. which I use quite a bit of. An int of 9 makes spellbooks troublesome.

After rearranging the gear on my alts and a couple key donations from Nab, my character is still very playable. This didn't end up nearly as badly as it could have, though I won't be reading any spellbooks anytime soon. :)

eek! that is bad. I don't think you should loose stuff due to a reboot. Losing eq to circumstances beyond your control doesn't sound fair to me. If the reboot didn't happen, more than likely you might have eventually got it back. Good on ya for taking it on the chin but!

Thanks to ~DoW~ and others! I got re-equipped with a minimum of pain and everything else I'm missing is trivial. I sincerely thank all of you :)
