commands not echoing

Although I have no problems accessing Slothmud through Tinyfugue on my Ubuntu laptop, I have encountered a problem with commands not echoing when I do so on my desktop, which is an ASUS chromebox jiggered to dual boot Ubuntu Unity. So when I move east from the Inn, 'e' isn't printed on my screen. Yet commands are echoed when I log into another MUD (Legendmud, as it happens). What is the difference between the two MUDs that prevents echoing on Slothmud but not the other? Or what is it about dual-booted Ubuntu that causes this curious difference?

I would imagine it's a client setting, i.e. in tinyfugue.
