Dark Mace : do the procs do anything?

Good afternoon folks, it seems sometimes Clerics do not get much feedback as far as whether their dark mace is doing them any good over say a weapon with the same dice without the procs. Sometimes we feel we don't really know if the "piercing howl" or "bones crunching" is just cosmetic, if it's only one damage point, or if it's doing something.

So what I did was, I cursed a dark mace down to 3d1 +0dam +3 hitroll.
And cursed a sturdy ironwood cudgel down to 3d1 +0dam +0 hitroll.
So my fight comparison has a little flaw in it but not really a game changer.
Someone nitpicky could search the eqlist exhaustively and find a 3dX +3 hitroll weapon with no damage and curse it and do this over, be my guest.

Then I went into Catacombs and fought 1 fight with each weapon against a larger ghoul (240k xp not 120k) with no spells up other than non combat spells. just infra waterbreathing and resist fire (a ghoul doesnt have any fire proc anyway).
I also did not web the ghoul until it was almost PH.
I kind of wanted to simulate a much longer fight against a bigger mob if i had had my spells up by having more resource usage (self heals).
I did not blast at all in these fights.

Results were these:
Cudgel: fight lasted 24 rounds. healed myself 4 times.
dark mace: fight lasted 14 rounds. needed to heal myself only 2 times.
barehand: fight lasted 17 rounds, healed myself once (hmm...actually i was at 605 hp so iwas "about" to heal myself again, the first heal was like at589hp before) so count 2 self heals
I should point out however that this is the barehand damage of an almost 9x40.

So pretty significant difference between cudgel and mace(the answer to my topic question is then a resounding "yes"). Sometimes I pester my fellow immortals to make dark mace more powerful or at least cosmetically more interesting. So i thought rather than complain i'd do a little testing.

Dark mace trivia

Dark mace seems to have a couple procs, including the spell 'turn undead' and some other more generic damage.
... Turn undead can cause undead to flee, even if they don't normally.

Dark mace can have the sancbuster effect which makes it deal full damage even when a mob is permalit.

High level dark mace can hit ethereal mobs.

Sloth III: Ok, my cleric was oldschool, but maybe the proc hasn't changed. The most damage I ever dealt in a single round due to dark mace procs was about 400. There was a turn undead on each of four attacks.

I know close to the end of S3, I increased the dark mace according to 40s. This was not transferred over to S4.

We are debating stats for that progression, so expect some decent enhancements soon.

My only concerns with a dark mace are pretty basic - why does it poof when i put it in and out of a container? And why does it last 2o minutes? Iam just trying to use it to get some extra regen (which cleric prime dont get a bonus to btw) and i cant because it keeps evaporating when i change eq and the bonus to mr is greatly diminished due to its short duration
Its a prime skill for heavens sake
