Stabbers that Proc

Postby Shazuko » Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:55 am

When a stabber procs, does the proc cut into the time you have to cast before the first round. I've only tried a proccing stabber a few times, but it seemed that each time it proc'd, it killed my chance to get a spell off. I know 'theoretically' it shouldn't...Maybe it was just my connection, etc. but I would really like to know for sure...

personally with my Rogue's Dagger I have noticed that if the poison proc does engage on stab, the mob does tend to retaliate much faster then a non-proc stab. I never payed much worry to it, but i have noticed the difference for getting a frostbolt in directly after a non-proc stab. It wasnt your connection, just seems that the mob is really pissed when you proc.

How about stabbers that appear to successfully proc:

backstab captain
The captain hates your guts!
The captain makes a strange sound, as you place the cinquedeas in his back.

You pierce the captain extremely hard.

Sometimes the cinq actually blinds a mob, and it shows a separate "The captain is blind!" after the stab proc message. I'm wondering, however, if it's doing something else, when it doesn't actually blind the victim? Or does that message "the cinquedeas it sprays a toxin, blinding the captain!" just mean it attempted to blind, and failed?
Now it's over, I'm dead and I haven't done anything that I wanted...Or I'm still alive, and there's nothing I want to do.

cinq blinds

I would bet that you're correct, the proc message is saying that it's attempting to blind but then the target has a chance to save. In that case, the wording of the proc message could be improved.

Likely, the cinq proc was an automatic blind when the item was added and someone later tweaked it to allow targets to save. That person may not have bothered to update the proc message.

Charles

PS If that's the case maybe the proc rate needs to be increased. The cinq used to be a nice item, but it got raped somewhere along the way. Hmm...can you rape a dagger? That might be painful.

I've also noticed that nowadays the cinq appears to poison mobs on rare occasions (or did it always do that?), but I've not noticed any new messages (or old messages) suggesting that it has done so (other than the mob shivering and suffering a few rounds later). At least I think it's the cinq doing the poisoning, as I'm not aware of store-bought Iocane having any lasting affects...

The low success on blinds/poisons, combined with my propensity to 2x whiff anything worth blinding anyway...Forging the cinquedeas was an experience worth undertaking a couple years ago (the Thing. Ouch.), but if I grew another thief, I think I'd leave that forge off my list of stuff to accomplish. I hate sacrificing the hitroll and damage of better stabbers, for a forged weapon that lies to me

PS. it is amusing, however, when the cinq does successfully blind on a 2x whiff, or when you get a "As you remove the cinquedeas it sprays a toxin, blinding the captain!" followed by "Nothing seems to happen." on the 2nd blind attempt :D
