TEACH TEACHING
Usage: TEACH
Level: 1
See also: PERISTRATA
While any moderately competent spellcaster will have become highly skilled
at deciphering spells from arcane tomes and ancient, cryptic compendia, this
process can be much easier with a good teacher.
Of course, not every yahoo fresh off the farm can teach the Great Mysteries.
The teacher must know the spell; he must have a copy of a spellbook for the
it in hand; and, he must use any object needed to read that spellbook. This
transfer of arcane knowledge can only be done at the peristratum for the spell
being learned. (There is no equivalent to the peristrata for skills, so,
sadly, these cannot be taught in any useful manner but must be learned from
manuals in the usual way.)
The student must be resting to muster the proper concentration. Also, both
the teacher and student must pay close attention, not sleeping or fighting or
talking, for the duration of the lesson.
A skilled teacher can as much as double the amount of knowledge his student
is able to pry from a book. The teacher also benefits from successful
teaching - after successfully teaching a spell to enough students, his own
ability at that skill will improve very slightly, even above the maximum
that can otherwise be achieved.
