Sad news

Postby Sam » Mon Mar 04, 2019 7:25 pm

Greetings from Moscow, it is snowing here

I was thinking to write this post or not, well i'm currently writing it.

I have to inform you all that Taron passed away in real life on Sunday, March 03, 2019.

It was a sudden death that nobody could have ever expected.

At first i thought it was some cruel joke, unfortunately his father confirmed it.

Funeral is taking place on Wednesday, March 06, 2019.

His real name was Yuri Filimonov, he lived in Novosibirsk, Russia, he was only 37.

And he always wanted to be perfect in everything he has ever done, that was his nature.

When he has made a decision he hardly, maybe never changed his mind.

He was my friend.

I can't really accept this fact still as we were in contact for last 20 years bleh.

Funny that he was first player I met on my very first day in Slothmud, it was fall of '97.

He was playing char Tr at that time, he was lvl 20 already and could solo a madman in Asylum (ofcourse he showed off) and that was impressive! That day we had a bh castle group, it was quite different from today. It was huge fun and I was totally captivated by Sloth :)

He was one of the best players in every aspect of game you can think of, great leader, true muchkin at his best, hardore player.

Some of you remember him as Jovis and many other names.

To think about it, we've spent so much time together, damn it.

Rest in peace, buddy and cya on the other side.

I'm really sad to hear about this. Taron helped me the most, I thought of him not just as a friend in the game but a real friend. I felt I understood the way he was, and could see myself in that reflection sometimes. The last time I saw him playing I asked him how he was and he said he was trying to play less. I regret we never talked longer. If only I knew that would be the last time we talked. He will always be in my thoughts when I play sloth. Rest in Peace Taron! :( :(

I don't know what else to say... :( :(

Keep us informed Sam.

Sad news indeed. Taron was an efficient mudder/leader, and at times with a rough exterior, he could be really kind and generous one on one. Hell, there were times when I was hesitant to learn to lead new areas I wasn't familiar with and he would volunteer to tank and say 'shrug, it's not that hard' in typical T fashion. As much as the regulars play this game, sloth becomes a mini-family here, and he will be terribly missed. Gorka has been right in the past...we all keep coming back because of the community (especially when you hit max levs and you kind of have to 'make your own fun')....it's the people that keep us here. We have one less now, and far too young. My condolences to his family, Sam/Fandral and those who knew him personally, and all of the sloth community who came to know him as part of our home away from home.

Do you think it would be appropriate if we put a fixed memorial in the game for the players who have died? People like Bro and Taron. They will always be a part of our memory, and I wish there was some way they could all still be a small part of this game.

My suggestion is to add a commemorative tombstone in one of the cemetery areas for each of the players. Breeze could write Bro's, Sam could do Taron's.

l tombstone would display the commemorative message.

We do have statues for Doink (on the Island someplace) and Quins (in nortwestern SS town), Gorka, and i was seeking your feedback this evening concerning the memorial for Taron, you just happened not to be logged in tonight. We just need to gather the details in one place and go from there. Both description text for it, and where to actually place the statue (some ideas have been, Moria, Mercurial Woods, or rather where he liked to get charmed pets from either hate-filled soldiers in Phantom Creek or Zelkham Zombies on the way to Ravenloft).
Best to continue that discussion online rather than on the forum however probably.

I'm thinking something like this... I think somewhere near the Zelkham Zombies is best appropriate. Miss you already Taron, thanks for everything.

I took Gorka's idea for the descrip, but i placed the statue near Smaug, in a room created for the purpose.
South of southern side of the slag-heap.
Anyway it's deployed into the game now.
Respectfully,
