Could an immortal please describe the conditions that cause a warcry to count?

I tanked 2 groups today, killed over 500+ group mobs and had less than 100 warcry added to my tally.

In a previous group about a week ago, we also ended up discussing this. I don't know why some mobs as little as guards in posiedon are counting, and yet mobs as big as fiends aren't. I can also not find a correlation between a warcry counting, and the time between crying and starting a fight. I'm lost as to how this works, but all I know is that I, and other warriors have cried for 1000's of group mobs that are not counting.

Not sure about this but what I noticed was you need at least 5 people to join your warcry (so you + 5 members = 6 people in the group at least) for it to count. Mob size seems not to matter much on this.

Gorka,

I know you aren't new here, so I'm surprised you are expecting immortals to provide a breakdown of exactly how a skill works. I can think of exactly zero times that has ever happened in the last two decades.

Fortunately, us lowly mortals can figure things out.

To increment warcry, you need:

1) To warcry (harder than you might think)

- Like any other skill, there's a 15% chance of failure.
- Failure looks like a success.

2) 4 players in your group must join your warcry

- A player who is already part of your cry may not display the 'joins the warcry' message, but they still count.
- For example, a player who previously joined your warcry but never engaged an enemy.

3) Engage an enemy

- You can use any form of engaging: backstab, kill, fireball, rescue, get aggroed, etc.
- Only the warcrier has to engage in order to increment the counter.

4) The combat must end with the monster dying.

- If the monster disengages onto someone else
- If you flee, disengage, shapeshift into a tree
- If you get procced out of the fight or out of the room
- the warcry is over you won't get credit.

5) There is no five.

- mob level and difficulty is irrelevant
- the other criers don't even need to be in the same room as you during the fight

I've often tanked for groups where it seemed like warcry was broken... but in many tests I've never documented it failing, when steps 1-4 were followed.

If your counter isn't incrementing in a large group, the most frequent problem is that too many players aren't joining the cry. This happens surprisingly often.

Also, large groups kill surprisingly low numbers of enemies. Try leading four warcry-joining players on a lyme stab/blast run and you'll level it quickly.

in my days (3 year ago) warcry and counts has been shown in finger data. nowdays it is not.

any chance to see it somehow?

I analyzed my logs a little for warcry that were not counting... I suspect this example follows all your rules, but still did not count. Am I missing something?

Yes, it can suck at times.. but it takes work like anything to improve

No one can figure out why my log didn't count? I still think something is up or there are other conditions Josiah hasn't specified... but my log should have been a textbook count in my opinion, and it simply did not count.

Just tested: easily replicated bug.

Killing a mob using 'deathblow' doesn't increment warcry.

Erm, just when I deathblow, or when anyone deathblows? Is this by design or can an immortal fix?

I tried out deathblow on warcry count last week. It worked for me. I got kill count for deathblow kill. Had only about 6 people in group that time iirc.


Now I am confused... Because from my tests there does seem to be a link between war cry not counting and deathblow.

Can an immortal at least comment on what counts and what doesn't? Is it different depending on who does the deathblow. Can it be fixed to be consistent?

I checked my emails last week and found a conversation between Breeze and myself on this topic...

The warcry count does not increase if the final strike is a deathblow.

At the time, because warcry bonuses were already decided upon and we were deep into the game, we made the decision not to change the way the game worked because we would have had to redo the warcry structure of bonuses.

Thanks for the confirmation Splork. Even if I don't like the way it works... it's still better to know how it works than to be scratching my head about it's mechanics.

The reason I don't agree with how it works is like Josiah pointed out... I could run 4 man stab blast on lyme and build my war cry by hundreds very quickly, yet in the traditional xp group setting warcry is less likely to count. It seems silly there is a very easy way to build your war cry, let the more proper way is so much harder and complicated. I can build my warcry more in a chopper run, than a run of MH.

This probably means it's not in the interests of warriors to use this skill except in very specialized circumstances like if a group is low mana or the mob is a dragon, or the group is less than 4 people. I will certainly be requesting that no one uses it in my xp groups anymore unless I call it for the foreseeable future.

If we ever get another immortal like teker, who has the time and ability to work on class skills... they would only need to go as far as the skill statistics page to see how players feel about the usefulness of certain skills. I do suspect deathblows might be down a bit next week.

I agree that usage may slip a bit but I bet it still gets used quite often.

I think groups will quickly realize that having the ability to remove thousands of hit points worth of a mob's health in a single blow is quite worth it...

Deathblow is no joke... I think it does up to 5000ish damage, although I never tested for the exact amount. The mob health percentages show that it works whenever a mob is at 14% or less.

If their max hp are extraordinary, like Lucifer, you'll have to wait until that number gets lower.

The only reason I even carry a blade is because this skill exists!

In a mid-size group, deathblow is very much worth using. It saves a round or two of combat and of course all the mana that would've been used on blasting and healing during those rounds. A bargain for 50 mvs.

But if I needed to build my warcry points I'd definitely ask people to refrain.

Well, I will definitely stop in group, because warcry hit points are awesome for the front row peeps, so it's important to make sure our tanks are racking up warcry points.
