Counter - Dodging

Postby Ditheca » Mon Apr 25, 2005 12:55 pm

If counterattack is enabled, it is impossible to dodge. While I realize this might be intentional, it would be nice if I could dodge on rounds that I fail to counterattack.

PS: Kjartan and counterattack rule!

I don't think he ever said it would be fair :)

of course, the logical next step to this would be for warriors to get back their extra attack on that 1 round in 10 where parry fails...
oh, oh, and mobs can not hate thieves when we miss our stabs, because obviously if we didn't harm it, why would it hate us?
Don't be stupid - we have politicians for that

Actually from what I've seen, counter attack says 85%. However my
Prime Monk has it setup to always counter (trigger). But when I'm in a
fight it only counters about hum... 40-50% of the time. When you check
Warrior's Parry, its at 85% but it actually does parry an attack 85%.
I believe they bump down the % for counter attack, is because the number
of War/Mon out there. I mean how cool for counter to work at a 85% when
a Warrior is tanking. It does a good amount of damage.

Solution??? Leave War/Monk counters at 40-50%, but bump up Prime Monk
to 85% on counter? I mean we can't parry like Warriors, so we should
have that 85% and War/Monk should have that 50% (if parry is turned off).

Counter is considerably more powerful than parry. I suspect the rate of success is lower to keep warriors better at it. Monks can block an attack while doing additional damage, while warriors lose an attack just for trying. That's a big disadvantage to warriors, but if it works a lot more often for warriors, that is some bit of compensation.

I believe Warrior with counters, they don't lose an attack. But I think
Monk Prime should have a higher chance on counter, because they don't
have the AC and HP as a Prime Warrior does.

Counterattack works at about 8% for me, since i run high level mobs. By 8% I mean that it goes off about once every 15 times the mob hits me. I assume all high level characters have this problem? Maybe it's just me.

Anyways, i was excited about counterattack, and it's still really really cool... just not as good as dodge (which saves me a lot of damage consistantly)

Actually, just two points on this.
1) A successful counter has two effects. It negates an attack by the mob (equivilent to parry) and it attacks the mob (equivilent to flurry). So, if you were successfully countering at 85% you would be the exact opposite of a warrior, since you would be gaining an attack instead of losing it.

2) A mob can only be parry/countered/ect once a round. I'm not sure that measuring by the number of attacks per round would be appropriate since it's possible that you only get one attempt per combat round.

That is tru 12345, then the % shouldn't be shown as 85%. Because we
all know it's not 85%. Maybe the immorts can show it at 25% or something
like what it's actually doing. Or again, give a Monk Prime a higher % to
counter attack.
