I think Blackmore hits on an important point. The code for rerolling/randomizing may or may not have changed over any period of time. Most of us just don't know, but, due to superstitions and other things that make people gamble, we hold on to whatever worked for as long as possible.
Back when I messed around with reroll hell, there was a lot of things I 'tried' in order to improve my chances of rolling well.
-Blessing tokens. If I started a char today, odds are, I'd bless it.
-Removing all items - Helps to see nats, doubt it truly helps/hinders rolling at all. Something I saw other char's do, but I never did or saw the point in, not only get nekkid, but put on -stat and +ac eq. No sense to that at all
-Rolling at different 'chambers' Jake's temple, Nia's temple, SS, other less travelled rolling houses. BH Med chamber is over used. - Again, seriously doubt there is any truth to this, but it was fun, and I did explore a little more to find new chambers.
-Waiting a tick after a bad roll. - This one was probably the most grounded in 'reality' Most computer random number generators take a 'seed' value. If you use the same 'seed' the result of the call to a system random function is not random at all, which is useful for debugging etc... An ideal seed for more randomness is something based on time, like say the tick, which when we had real ticks may have made more of a difference then now. However, it may have never had anything to do with the tick and always just based itself on system time, I probably will never know and most of us won't either.
But it sure is fun to try and keep rolling and guessing.
Happy rolling kids!
