Lost concentration

Postby *juggleblood* » Wed Oct 19, 2016 6:19 pm

Another topic from the changelog thread that I'm making it's own thread rather than dirty up changelog.

The suggestion from Gorka and picked up by Teker was that lost concentration message could be:
You lost your concentration on your 'stone skill' spell!
or
You lost your concentration on your 'gods of war' song!

The question is whether the extra text is spammy or awkward. I think no. I really like clarity in confirmation messages.

But I might suggest:
You lost your concentration! You failed to cast 'stone skin'.
or
You lost your concentration! You failed to sing 'gods of war'.

My reasoning here is that adding the verbs fail, cast, and sing give more sense of action than the construct 'concentration on your spell/song'.

I'm 100% in favor of adding clarity to the players' actions. I wish we could please put back in the messages for mob switching targets too. It makes combat less foggy and more readable.

It's empty already.
cast 'create water' keg

<495hp 416ma 19mv 709919030xp -9.5ac -%>
Ok.
The cleansing fires of healing fill your body!

<703hp 354ma 19mv 709919030xp -9.5ac -%>
You lost your concentration! You failed to cast 'restoration'.
@@
cast 'restoration'

Thank you for implementing! That could seriously be the best game improvement since eqset... :mrgreen:

In this same vein, something else script heavy people would really appreciate is seeing spell down messages while asleep. :)

This fix is not good at all.
At first, it looks ugly: extra spaces between sentences, not capitalized spell name, the line is 2 sentences = too long to read and pay attention.
At second, it plain simply encourages botting making it way too easier to automate.
If it cant be cancelled, then least worst idea would be to make it switchable - adding a variable to keep good olde style as it was for tens of years and nobody complained, or new one if someone choses to use it (personally, I have no idea why they would, except reasons above), and put that variable in 'settings' section.

It don't look ugly to me.

Spell name shouldn't be capitalized.

Preventing botting is a silly argument for obfuscating game information. If that were the goal then we wouldn't have tank reporter or msdp variables such as room number and group player data.

Hi Yasik. I miss you.

Yeah, I knew you'll answer something like that :)
Missed commas and other punctuation marks, non-capitalized beginning of sentences, capitalized words in the middle of sentence while being non names or geographic locations, etc - it all does not look ugly, indeed. /irony
Its called 'esthetics', it tells players that coders and builders approach their job with care and love.
Anyway, do whatever you think is right, its "your" game after all :)

Will do, but know that your feedback is appreciated. Sometimes we agree.
