Necromancy and Alignment

Can we please have a change to a longstanding game feature whereby using necromancy brings your alignment down. Pretty please?

The rationale for having it as it currently exists is very weak. The idea being that necromancy is inherently evil in a "realistic" sense, therefore using necromancy should bring the players alignment down.

Think about what a poor reason that is. Firstly necromancy itself isn't even real, so the realism argument falls flat on it's face. Secondly, even if necromancy itself were real, there is no reason why it's use would have to be restricted to evil ends. There are good and evil spirits and it reasonably follows that there can be good necromancers. Furthermore, the fact that necromancers can be good-aligned supports that argument.

Now lets think about it from a mechanics point of view. What does the existing feature accomplish apart from punishing the necromancer for using his or her abilities, the punishment being the difficulty in maintaining a good alignment and running evil areas. From a mechanics standpoint, this feature looks a lot more like a bug.

Thanks for your consideration.
