Monk Weapons

Postby Modello » Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:59 pm

I'd like to open discussion and conduct a poll....... the topic is monk weapons.

A description of the monk class in dungeon's and dragons states,

"They typically use only their bare hands as weapons, delivering powerful blows that grow stronger as the Monk rises in power. Monks can also use special Monk weapons such as the quarterstaff and kama, using many of their unarmed-combat abilities with these weapons as well."

I realize this is Sloth and not D&D but nonetheless..... I think it is a great idea. My personal thoughts are that weapons of this type WOULD allow hand damage to apply. Additionally, certain weapons could be used with strike, stun, flurry etc.

I would NOT be proposing that any of these weapons further enhance the normal base hand damage. In fact, a weapon could do less than normal base damage but have a proc on a successful strike for instance.

I just think its silly that the monk class is a weaponless class and that weapons of this type would only add to the flavor of the game.

This is an open discussion. Please post your thoughts or hit me online if I'm in Nab/Mojo.

Thanks,
Keith

P.S. Nunchaku are a must!!!

Personally I dont have a monk but it would be a nice idea, however some ideas for thoughts are would you need to remove the "monk weapon" for things like deathgrip or deathtouch. You mentioned strike, flurry, and stun, just trying to grasp on what and what not would be available. All in all I think its a nice idea.

You wouldn't have to remove shit. Use a garrote technique or even have it as a monk skill at low avatar = the ability to use monk weaps, kamas, sais, bo staff, nunchaku, nekode, cesti, katars...get down. I want a phone cord.
This is a great idea I 100% approve.

I do play a monk prime, and I think this is a helluva good idea. From the way I've always seen it interpeted, striking weapons like staves and nunchaku could be used with strike or stun, because its a monk's knowledge of vital spots that allows them to use these skills, and the weapon just gives them a little breathing room compared to bare hands.

I also agree with the idea that these weapons shouldnt have any damage enhancements, but possibly procs, like a low % to trip a mob on a staff hit or if people think using a staff/chucks/tonfa for stun/strike is too powerful, give the weapons a % chance to stun/strike

Just my $.02

Just a thought based on what was just said about the weapon giving a little room.. perhaps a wielded staff, while not increasing damage in any way, could work like a very mild form of parry in that it keeps the mob at bay somewhat, causing them to miss a blow every now and then as it is 'blocked' from connecting by the staff..

Its all about style points, put some nice looking weapons in there for monks.
They dont need to do anything, but look cool and allow for all monk skills to still be used; handdam, strike,grip/touch/ counterattack.

Just my irrational thoughts.

I'd have to agree it would be a cool addition. Even if they only had a proc like curse/damn or blind etc. it would be neat to see..

Nab masterfully gashes Yasik's eyes with his sais blinding him!!!!

Nab performs a combination strike with his nunchaku decimating Yasik!!!!

Nab lands a skillfull blow with his Bo staff knocking Yasik off his feet!!!!

that would really breathe new creative arts to killing Yasik. FUN!

I'm not getting into a public battle of insults or explanations. Post something constructive and "on-topic" instead of spamming every topic with useless garbage and we'll talk.

{EDIT} It wasn't the picture, I just grew tired of it all.

That's all I have to say on the matter, and that's all I will say until I am overruled or the entire situation changes.
