Fortune

Silly question. Has anyone played with the fortune spell? Is it just a play spell or does it have an actual use? Reading the help file, it looks kinda like a Wand of Wonder, which was a little like playing Russian Roulette in most cases.

It is pretty much like playing russian roulette, but the positive effects can be pretty nice (-1ac, +1dam, etc..)

I use it quite often.

I just say dont invest in the spell, unless books are handed out. After it became a drachma book, it sort of lost its luster. If an immortal handed them out in a quest and there was nothing better to select, then yes, I may take a set of books.

Thanks for the responses. Could be interesting if I have a ton of mana to burn on fortune and dispels, which I never do. I don't know what the downsides of the spell are, but it doesn't sound like it teleports you to the Balor Demon, polymorphs you into a giant bunny or idol dives you. Could be an interesting cure for boredom.
