Secondary Class Help

Postby Briza » Wed Aug 11, 2010 6:07 pm

Hello,

Not sure if anyone really posts or reads here anymore, seems to be very minimal posts :)

Anyhow- I know I asked in game the other day About a Secondary Class and the popular choice was Druid....

I am a Cleric Prime - and yes, I do want to be a good healer later on, for some grouping, but I do like to Solo as well.

People say to take Druid 2nd for the Mana Regen, which I guess is good, but everyone seems to have Druid 2nd, well seems to be a lot- and well I like to be different - but as long as it will be fun, and I do not gimp myself in the higher lvls - because most likely I am not going to start over at that point :(

I was really thinking of doing Warrior or Bard for my Secondary .... and I wanted to get some feedback on what peoples thoughts are........

Thanks!!

Briza!

Good question Briza,

In the old sloth, because there was only 4 classes you could choose for a character, there were certain class orders that were developed in order to make your prime class the best it could be. Basically the idea was you choose a prime class, and the other 3 classes were picked to support that prime class so it could be the best.

For example if you played druid, you needed mana... so it was widely excepted a druid should be 4 x Caster with mage or cleric second. The same with warrior primes, you should go thief or monk second.

Some players still hold to the ideal, that your sub classes are only there to support your prime class. I currently play a druid monk which raises a few eyebrows, I expect that my critics will be pleasantly surprised, about the time I reach 6x40 and higher.

Before sloth went to 8 different classes, there was only 4 classes, warrior, cleric, thief, mage. Cleric warriors were a fairly popular choice at the time then. I often grouped with Assirian in catacombs and dark dreams. He could do quite well in some areas, wielding a dark mace while being fully armored. This works well for solo xp in places like catacombs and dark dreams.

I suggest you do what you want to do, become what you want to be, think outside the box, aim not to be just a specialist, but a little bit more versatile, try and aim to be able to do 2 things well, instead of just one.

Some classes do have prefered slots even in this version of sloth. For example, thief and monk should probably only be put 1st or 2nd or 7th and 8th. If you are a prime caster, do try and put caster classes higher, and druid higher as much as possible, but don't lock yourself in to what people say about the old specialist class orders, versatile is good.

The ultimate stat in sloth is mana, because mana is indirectly health and damage, so it's wise to aim to have as much as possible.

At the end of the day, do what you want to do and enjoy it. Don't be afraid to put warrior second, and then druid and mage somewhere soon afterwards. Armored clerics is not an original concept, it's proven to have worked!

I recomend mage second and war third. Blasting and various useful spells for solo and warr still pretty high in the class order for a little toughness and eq.

With 8 classes most anything will be playable and everything will have a few rough spots while working your way to avatar.

Glad to see people are alive and responding - Thank you both for the insight...

I do kind of like Warrior 2nd, for some versatility.....

Cleric/Mage/War/(Probably Druid) seems good - but the Cleric/Mage seems like it would be common too :) Not that I am against common......

But I still kind of like

Cleric/Warr/Druid/Mage or Cleric/War/Mage/Druid

Or

Cleric/Bard .... Bard has songs(which burn mana fast tho), but they also have some offensive spells I noticed....

Still... tough to decide ....

On another note - Cleric/Thief may be interesting - but not sure Cleric/War may be better if i go non caster

The difference between having bard 2nd/3rd or having it 7th/8th - practically speaking, and more in a solo sense - is next to nil. Having mage or druid higher is far more important.

Mage is always a safe bet, I don't think you can ever be disappointed putting mage early as possible. On every character I've ever played I've either missed being mage, or really looked forward to having high levels in it.

well was thinking

Cleric/Bard/Mage/Druid or Cleric/Bard/Druid/Mage

or

Cleric/Warr/Mage/Druid ; Cleric/Warr/Druid/Mage

or

Cleric/Thief/Mage/Druid ; Cleric/Thief/Druid/Mage

or Possibly

Cleric/Mage/Warrior/Druid

-- Not sure I have a preference on any - they all seem unique in their own way - Any advice on those?

I'd eliminate these...

Cleric/Bard/Mage/Druid or Cleric/Bard/Druid/Mage
Cleric/Thief/Mage/Druid ; Cleric/Thief/Druid/Mage

These are better choices...

Cleric/Warr/Mage/Druid ; Cleric/Warr/Druid/Mage
Cleric/Mage/Warrior/Druid ; Cleric/Mage/Druid/Warrior
Cleric/Druid/Mage/Warrior; Cleric/Druid/Warrior/Mage

Warrior 2nd/3rd/4th doesn't make to much difference. 5th is a bit too slow, but some people do it, so they get more mana. The main adavntage of warrior is being able to wear ac, which is important for solo. It also gives a 3rd attack... however mage gives an extra attack 5 levels earlier.

I'm not going to say what I'd pick ;)

Bards are definitely cool, but I agree with Jeezer (slap self) that it isn't a great second class with prime cleric. Bard is great and so is cleric but in both cases they are most powerful as players that make groups work well. And if you are a big bard singing for the group, you won't be healing and vice versa.
